Sitemap General HTTP error: 404 not found
Problem might be a DNS error. You just have to wait a few more hours.
A Sitemap is a XML file based on the Sitemap protocol that lists URLs for your site along with information when the URLs where updated. An easy way for Google to find all your pages is to read this xml data. You submit your sitemap.xml to Google via Webmaster Tools.

PROBLEM
Sitemap General HTTP error: 404 not found We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.
Google says it can't find Sitemap when you submit it.
SOLUTION - DNS ERROR
When you deploy your new home-page on the internet and change DNS record entries so yourdomain.com is pointed to your server, you might be too eager to add a sitemap to Google. The DNS might not be updated all over the world.
Although you can surf to yourdomain.com, google might NOT.
Wait a few more hours until DNS Name-servers are updated all over the world.
